What do I need to run it?

An iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later, signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive enabled — Model Colors uses iCloud to store your collection and builds. For the Mac you need to be running macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

Is there a cost?

Model Colors has a cheap subscription to cover for at least a part of all the work that goes into maintaining the app and the data set. See the App Store listing for current pricing in your region. If the cost is simply too much get in touch and we can probably arrange something.

Will there be an Android or a web version?

Currently there are no plans for an Android version. The task of creating an Android version is a huge one and unfortunately the market is small. There is also no web version yet, but a limited version has been planned for a while now and should arrive at some point.

Is my data available on all my devices?

Yes. Any data you add to the app is always available on all your other devices that run the app as long as you use the same Apple Id on them all. Only one subscription is needed for all your devices. Data is stored centrally on a server and photos/documents that you can optionally add to your models are stored on your own private iCloud Drive.

Which paint brands are supported?

More than 80 manufacturers and over 50,000 colors — including Vallejo, Tamiya, Games Workshop / Citadel, Revell, Testors, Army Painter, AK Interactive, Humbrol, Scale75, Reaper, Ammo, Hataka, and MIG Productions, alongside many independent ranges.

How do I report a problem or request a brand?

Use the feedback option in the app, or get in touch through one of the methods on the Contact page. Most brands in the app have been requested by users at some point in time.

How does color matching work?

Model Colors compares paints using the FS, RAL, and RLM standards and the CIE deltaE 2000 color-difference formula, then ranks the closest equivalents in other ranges. Screens and lighting vary, so treat matches as a strong starting point and confirm against a physical swatch for critical work.

To find similar colors select the starting color and then tap the Similar tab or link. In the shown view you can select where the similar colors are picked from and how close they should be. Note that it's not possible to find similar colors for paints that are metallic, translucent, fluorescent or products that use a photo.

Will my data be used for ad purposes or for training AI:s?

No. The app does not store any personal data, share anything with 3rd parties nor use anything to train any AI models. See the privacy policy for more information.
