Version 6.1#

Released on 2026-10-07

Color map#

A new way to look at your paints. The color map plots a set of colors on a hue disc, so you can see at a glance where your collection is dense and where the gaps are. Zoom in to tell individual paints apart, and tap a dot to see every paint sitting on that spot. Open it on your stash, your shopping list, a color list, a color type or one of your models. On anything but your stash it marks which paints you already own, and how many of the rest are already on your shopping list.

Open it on a single color and the rest of your stash appears around it, so you can see whether you already own something close.

Color schemes#

The color schemes now share a single color wheel. Choose complementary, split complementary, analogous, triadic or tetradic on the wheel itself, see what each color contributes to the scheme, and browse the closest matching paints from your stash. Previously this feature was a bit hard to understand.

Shops#

A model can now contain data about which shop it came from. Previous versions had a free text field for the shop, but now you can pick the shop from a shared directory, grouped by country and searchable by name or country, and the model shows the shop's address, websites and phone number, with a button that drops its pin in Maps. A shop in another country that has no webshop is marked as such when you pick it. Currently the shop directory is pretty small, but you can easily add your local brick and mortar shops as well as your favorite web shops to the directory. Adding shops is done on the Model Colors website. Shops you add are your private data but you can submit it for inclusion into the global directory that all users can access.

More accurate color matching#

Previous versions had a bug in showing the results of the color matching that caused several close matches to not be included. Now it's both more accurate and includes all hits.

Photos and documents#

Model Colors has begun copying photos, documents and 3D files to its own cloud storage. This is the first step, and nothing has left iCloud Drive: your files are still saved there exactly as before, and are now copied to Model Colors cloud storage as well. The copying carries on in the background, even when the app is closed, and a file you change is copied again. A new Storage page in Settings shows how much of your space is in use and lists anything still waiting to be copied, with a way to retry or discard a file that could not be sent. This change is a multi version process and a later update will finish the move.

Scale calculator redesign#

A redesigned scale calculator that also converts between scales, such as 1/35 to 1/48, and tells you what size to print plans or decals at. Previously it was not possible to directly convet between scales, you had to go via 1:1 (real world scale) first. Now you can convert between any two scales, making it easy to find out for example how wide an invasion stripe that is 7 mm in 1:72 should be in 1:48.
